HHSAA Div. II GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Saint Francis rallies past Seabury for title
Angel Savea had 21 kills and 11 digs, and Malia Luis-Mateo added eight kills and 13 digs Friday night as Saint Francis rallied past Seabury Hall, 20-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 15-9 for the New City Nissan/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Volleyball State Championship.
The Saints finished the regular and postseason at 16-1 after the victory at Blaisdell Arena. Seabury Hall ended up 14-2.
After dropping the first two sets, Savea had two kills during a 7-1 run in the third set that stretched a 7-5 lead into a 14-6 margin, and a 6-1 spurt later made it 20-7.
In the fourth set, Luis-Mateo had three kills to highlight a 7-2 run that broke a 5-5 tie and made it 14-7, Saint Francis, and the Saints kept their distance the rest of the way to force the decisive fifth set.
In that fifth set, Alyssa Panis had two kills as Saint Francis broke away from a 10-8 lead and Pualehua Keola capped a 6-1 finish with an ace to end it.
Regal Deen-Jackson led the Spartans with 13 kills and seven blocks and Kiki Leuteneker added 12 kills and five blocks.
