HHSAA Division II GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Waimea victorious in consolation match

The Waimea girls volleyball team won the consolation championship of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Division II State Championship, Saturday, Oct. 30th in defeating Ka’u of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation in straight sets, 26-24 and 25-12, at McKinley Student Council Gym in Honolulu.

Senior Jayme Jacinto led the charge for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation member with 12 kills.

Jacinto said after the match that she was happy yet sad at the same time in playing her last high school match for Waimea.

“This was my last volleyball game I will ever play for high school and it was pretty exciting for me. But it was hard for me at the same time to realize that this season is over,” Jacinto said.

Waimea closes its season with a 14-2 record. They lost in the first round of the tournament to Kalaheo of the Oahu Interscholastic Association in five sets.

“Although I had a good game, I’m happier that our team was able to win this last match of the season. This event will be a moment I will always remember,” Jacinto said.

“Coming here to this tournament was special for our team,” Jacinto added. “I’m from the small island of Kauai where there are only three high schools so we play the same teams often. At this tournament we get a chance to play against a variety of teams which our team really enjoyed.”
