About the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor

The Hawai‘i High School Hall of Honor was established in 1982 by Nissan Motor Corp. in Hawaii, Ltd., to recognize athletic excellence and achievements of Hawai‘i’s high school athletes.

Twelve student-athletes are selected annually for induction into the Hall of Honor by an independent selection committee. Along with the induction into
the Hall of Honor, each student-athlete receives a $2,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car college scholarship, which may be used to offset college education expenses (tuition, books, and room and board).

In Fall 2004, Nissan Hawaii turned the prestigious high school scholarship program over to the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association to maintain the 22-year-old tradition.

Eligibility

Seniors in the state of Hawai‘i who are participating in any official Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state championship sport(s) are eligible for consideration.

Qualities Considered

Athletic achievement is given primary consideration by the selection committee. Other factors considered include: contributions to the team; versatility in sports; sportsmanship and dedication; character and behavior on and off the playing field/court; academic achievement; role in school activities outside sports; and involvement in the community.

Nominations

Only official HHSAA Hall of Honor nomination forms will be accepted, and they must be approved by the respective school. Supporting materials may
accompany the nomination form and may include media clippings, personal statements, letters of reference, or grade transcripts. Supporting material
is limited to six one-sided 8½” x 11” sheets.

Additional material submitted will not be considered and will be discarded without discretion. Applications and materials may not be submitted via facsimile transmission or by email.

In addition to the completed nomination form and supporting material, two photographs are required: a senior portrait (a head-and-shoulders shot) and an action photograph. These photographs will not be returned to the student-athlete and will be used in the Hall of Honor dinner program.

Completed nomination forms must be postmarked by Wednesday, April 30, 2014, and sent to the HHSAA at P.O. Box 62029, Honolulu, HI
96839. Nominations will not be accepted after the deadline.

Selection Committee Meetings

The committee will meet to make its selections on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, 2014. The honorees will be announced on Monday, May 19, 2014.

An awards banquet will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Ala Moana Hotel. Honorees are required to attend the awards banquet.
